Honestly; having my nails done makes me feel like my life is so much more together, especially if they’re glittery. Discovering gel nail polish has changed my nail routine significantly and now I am always able to have fabulous nails.
There is literally nothing worse than picking a fab colour, finishing your nails, feeling sassy AF then 5 minutes later realising you have sat on your hand and smudged your polish, or laid on your hand during the night and have a nice face print on your thumb nail. Not to mention looking down and seeing a giant chip on your nails that you have no idea how it happened.
With Gel nail polish you don’t have those problems, it takes (literally) a minute to dry, and once it’s dry it’s set, no smudges, no hair getting stuck in the polish, and no chips. I’ve actually had my shellac on for up to 3 weeks with no chipping before. It’s literally the exact stuff you’d pay £20/£30 in a salon to have done and you can buy yourself a whole kit for less than that.
I purchased an LED lamp from Amazon for £19.99 (I’ve linked it at the bottom of the post but there are so many you can choose from) I mostly buy my gel polishes from Amazon or eBay, and I have so many now but I guess a girl can never have too many nail polishes right?
I’ve now discovered BlueSky and there isn’t really any competition between them and other brands. They have become my absolute favourite brand for Gel Polish and I am struggling to restrain myself from buying the whole collection…
I’ve found that with the Blue Sky polishes, that you only generally need two coats for a full enough coverage, even with the glittery ones which normally need a little more building up. They also apply like an absolute dream, they go on smoothly and cure under the lamp without moving, smudging or peeling. I’ve also found that they last a lot longer than any other gel polishes I’ve tried which has been up to three weeks, and even then I only changed them due to nail growth!
Blue Glitter, 137 I am in lovvveee with this polish, I feel like it’ll be especially perfect over the Christmas period (although I will be wearing it all year round) The closer you look at it, the more you see, at first it looks like there’s only gold and red glitter within the blue, then you look closer and realise there’s even smaller green glitter and then you see there’s also really fine strands of purple…it’s gorgeous I can’t stop staring at my nails!
Pink SR45 I feel like this is defo more of a summer colour, perfect on your toes too and looks fabulous with a tan.
Purple Glitter S10N is my absolute favourite of the Bluesky polishes I own. It’s perfect for any time of year and I always lean towards the glittery ones because why would you not want sparkly nails?!
Galaxy 01– this has to be one of my favourites too (you’ve probably guessed I like glitter by now!) note that on the website it’s been used on top of a black polish, the Galaxy polish itself is a clear glitter. It looks gorgeous alone but also on top of any other colour, it looks so different depending on what you layer it on top of and it looks amazing!
This (pic above) is the Galaxy 01 alone with just a base and top coat to show the gorgeous glitter! and (below) I’ve painted my nails with a mixture of other bluey/purple colours then put the Galaxy 01 on top to create a range of Galaxy nails! – I am a sucker for anything space, sky and star related so I am allllll over this!
Grapefruit Sparkle 80546 – This colour looks absolutely gorgeous alone for a more subtle nail, but I’ve been loving putting it on top of a pale pink and making a plain colour more shimmery and gorgeous. It’s perfect for a wedding, or event and just goes with any outfit – your perfect everyday colour. (I will say it does look very different on the website than it does in real life…it’s absolutely gorgeous but the photo shows it a lot more berry toned but it’s more of a pale pink!) If you look at my photo of the wheel it’s the second one in!
‘Cotton Candy’ Pale Pink BP21 I love this one as a colour underneath a glitter, it gives such a good base and if you put a holographic glitter on top it makes it really stand out. I loved putting it underneath the Grapefruit sparkle polish as it gave it a really lovely shimmer and looks gorgeous with all outfits!
If you want to do your own Gel nails at home then all you need is;
- Gel Lamp
- Top and Base coat (I use a no wipe top coat so that I don’t have to fuss with a cleanser)
- Gel Polishes
You can also get yourself some nail tips, acrylic liquid and powder & do your own acrylics, once the acrylic has dried you just pop the shellac gel on the same way you would on your normal nails. It’ll save you so much money rather than going to a salon and it’s so much fun to do it yourself & try load of different colours!
