Favourite Drugstore Foundations

“May Your foundation match your neck, concealer be creaseless, and winged eyeliner be sharp enough to kill amen.”

When it comes to foundations I think the first thing I look for is that they’re easily blendable if there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s desperately dragging foundation across my face trying to get rid of the funny patch on my cheek where it’s already started to sink in.

Having incredibly pale skin also makes it hard to find a foundation in ‘ivory’ that doesn’t lie to you and turn out too dark for even the palest of people… I can’t be the only one?

I have compiled together a list of all the drug store foundations I’ve tried and tested and given you my honest opinion on them all in the hope that it will help you if you’re trying to find a good one that won’t cost you the Earth!

Miss Sporty So Matte Perfect Stay: This foundation is fine for a starting foundation especially for younger people as it doesn’t have very full coverage, it’s very light and easy to wear and its very inexpensive. However I found the consistency was very watery and didn’t really blend or sink in very well it kind of just sits on the skin and looks a bit weird. Although its only £3.29 (I think) I don’t really think it’s worth the money as it’s just not very good. It says it’s matte and it is but it almost gives a very dry finish to your skin. It doesn’t last long either, I haven’t used it very much and as you can see from the photo it’s nearly all gone so you have to use quite a lot each time. I wouldn’t say it lasts the 14 hours it claims but if you’re young and you’re trying out foundations and don’t want anything too heavy to wear or expensive to buy then it might be a good option.

Rimmel Wake me up in 200 Soft Beige: This is one of my long running favourite foundations, the coverage of all three of the Rimmel foundations is really good without being too cakey and I regularly reach for all them. It’s slightly too dark for me but I think I bought it during the summer last year, so I would normally have gone for an ‘ivory’ shade but this one is a beige tone. It’s still good though especially if I’m wearing fake tan or want a darker look to build up bronzer on top. It blends really well and is easy to build which I really like. I weirdly really like the smell of this one too and I’ve found it lasts a really long time, I’ve only bought two of these foundations over a good few years, granted I don’t use it much anymore but a little does go a long way.

Rimmel Lasting Finish in 100 Ivory: I think this foundation is my ultimate favourite drug store foundation, I’ve repurchased it several times over the years and even if I buy a new one to try I always go back to it and like to always have one available to use. The coverage is great without it being too much, it blends really well, the colour is a perfect match for my skin tone and it’s really easily buildable. I find it works really well with cream contour too, the two consistencies work well and I often use cream contour if I’m using this foundation.

Rimmel Match Perfection in 103 True Ivory: This foundation is also very accurate one to my skin tone. It blends really well and has a reasonably high coverage. It is pretty much exactly the same colour as my skin so makes a really good base for contouring and bronzing to build up colour. This is the only drug store foundation I’ve repurchased too as I really enjoyed using it. I find that the Rimmel products last a long time too, probably because they’re easy to blend so you don’t need to use too much.

Maybelline: This is my newest addition to my foundation collection, I got it in the lightest shade, (I think). It’s in 120 and it is ever so slightly too dark for my skin tone but at the moment when I’m wearing fake tan its perfect, and if I’m not then it still doesn’t actually look too dark when it’s blended in well, I think because of the quality of the foundation it blends in easily and looks nice and natural. I like to have a bit of colour on my face sometimes because I’m so used to being so pale that wearing a darker foundation feels nice sometimes. This foundation blends so well and it gives such a nice coverage, it’s definitely a new favourite.

L’Oreal True Match: I bought this foundation online from fragrancedirect.com so I naturally got the lightest shade but it is very pale. Shock, I have actually found a foundation which is slightly TOO pale for me!! I do really like it though, some days I don’t like to bronze up and roll with the pale skin life. I am not overly keen on the consistency of this as it is pretty runny, although this makes it easier to move around your face when applying it does mean it kind of sits on your skin in a weird way.

I hope this is helpful to some of you, I would definitely highly recommend Rimmel foundations, I’ve been very happy with every Rimmel product I’ve tried.

Love and hugs from Evie
